SEVENTIES PUDDINGS AT HISTORIC 25P PRICE TAG FOR ONE WEEK ONLY AT THE DORMY HOUSE HOTEL

Puddings from the 1970s at 1970 prices will celebrate the launch of the Dormy House Hotel’s archive room this February. Lemon Meringue Pie and Chocolate Mousse were best sellers in the seventies and their revival at the historic price tag of just 25p will be available in the Barn Owl Restaurant for the week of 16 February to 20 February 2009.

Menus adorning the walls of the room will also feature Sirloin Steak at £1.45 and vintage Bollinger at just £4.50 a bottle, though sadly not at these prices on the menus on the tables.

The archive room is the idea of General Manager David Field who has been with the Dormy House Hotel for 26 years. Mr Field says: “There have been so many happy memories – why not share them with a wider audience”.

Photographs on the walls feature many of the celebrities who have stayed at the hotel in the past. One of the more memorable was the comedian Kenny Everett who is featured sat on the infamous Dormy House stone at the entrance to the hotel. Others include sportsmen such as Aston Villa footballer Andy Gray and the boxer Barry McGuigan. Various pop stars include megastars such as Cliff Richard and Kate Bush. And personalities such as Noel Edmunds who arrived by hot air balloon also feature alongside a menu signed by the actor Edward Woodward and the cast of a production which was performed at nearby Stratford.
One of the more memorable visitors was the comedian Jimmy Tarbuck who also made history for the hotel by getting it a mention on the front page of The Sun.

Chef Andrew Troughton presides over the Barn Owl Restaurant which offers rustic recipes using local produce and main core ingredients. Starters cost £6. Main courses cost £12. His ethos for The Dining Room at the Dormy offers modern British recipes prepared using well known French techniques. A three-course meal costs £36.

To qualify for the special puddings offer, diners must purchase a starter or main course first.
