The Dormy House has once again played host to the DVLA’s annual auction of private number plates. The event has been taking place over the past 3 days from the 7th to the 9th of October, giving punters the chance to secure a converted personalised registration plate at a venue boasting one of the finest locations in the country.

The banqueting facilities at the hotel was transformed into a public auction room for the event complete with auctioneer and telephone and on-line bidders.

2009 is also a milestone for the DVLA Personalised Registrations as they celebrate their 20 year anniversary of DVLA Auctions, which was done so with a specially-made 'number plate cake' with " 20 YRS " placed on top (photo above).

Banqueting Operations Manager Gemma Whelan expressed that "the auction has been an enjoyable and friendly event to look after, and has also proved to be a great day out for punters wanting to bid and purchase distinctive and collectable registrations"

This was underlined when a mystery buyer swooped and bought the coveted registration " 5 O " for a staggering £87,853.75 in the first sale of the final day of DVLA Personalised Registrations' autumn auction

Damien Lawson, Marketing Manager of Personalised Plates at the DVLA said of the choice of Dormy as a venue: “Our number plates sell from £250 upwards to the dizzy heights of many thousands for collectable ones. It’s very much a luxury product so it’s essential we complement that with a luxury venue. We have been coming to the Dormy House since 2004 and the beautiful venue and helpful, courteous staff make the Dormy a perfect choice. Everything runs very smoothly from set up of the event through to the parking of guest’s cars and light refreshments and televised rest areas provided”
