My extraordinary Boss
In January of this year, it was with great sadness that we received the news that Jørgen Philip-Sørensen, owner of the Dormy House Hotel, had passed away.
JPS, as he was widely known, had owned the Dormy House since 1977. It was one small element of his wide-ranging business activity, but his personal involvement and influence made it into what it is today - a 'home-from-home' country house hotel.
Indeed, his most wonderful asset was his personal touch. He always took time to talk to all the staff when he came to the hotel, and knew then all by name. I had the privilege of working with and for him for 27 years, and was touched by his life in many different ways - he was an endless source of inspiration and motivation.
You can be assured that the tradition of hospitality and the insistence on quality that originated with JPS, will continue at the Dormy House under the private ownership of the Sørensen family.
I shall forever remember JPS as the perfect gentleman, and I can picture him now at the hotel in his favourite alcove enjoying a steak cooked 'rare and flare' with a glass of Sancerre. He always enjoyed a J&B on the rocks in the Cocktail Bar, which in his honour, we will be renaming Philip's Bar.
The Dormy House stands to testimony to his marvellous spirit and his impeccable standards.
